We have spent a day with our brand ambassador Sara dal Corso. Sara is a Contemporary Dancer & Yoga Professor, who is currently living in Lisbon. She took us to her favourite places and answered some questions about her life and practice.
The KOOZY: Tell us in few words about yourself.
Sara: I think I’m a very passionate person. Whatever I do, I do with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. I’m very enthusiastic about life, being a yoga teacher, about a dance, music, being a mum. That is the word to define me.
The KOOZY: How do you start your day?
Sara: Actually, I start my day when my son decides. If I’m lucky and he is sleeping a lot, I can have a little moment for myself. That means I can have a little meditation or just a short practice for me. Then, we have a breakfast together, I drop him to school and then I have a quiet moment to set up my day.
The KOOZY: What is your favourite food?
Sara: Of course, fresh fruits and vegetables. I really like to eat seasonal food, respecting the time of nature. But, I’m Italian, so my actual favourite food is the risotto, that my father is cooking very well.
The KOOZY: What do you wear today?
Sara: The KOOZY and it is wonderful!
The KOOZY: Do you have any tips on how to improve your lifestyle towards healthier living?
Sara: Personally, for me, is important to enjoy little moments during a day: not using a car, walking everywhere possible. Start buying food with a lot of consciousness. What I mean is, choosing local biological markets. In my family, we receive a box, coming from a farm, located not so far away from Lisbon. We are coproducers. We help them to grow their food and they send us their food. I think, this kind of thing is making us healthier, because we eat natural and knowing where it was produced. Enjoy little moments in your day: when you wake up, take a little moment for you, feel the movements of your body and sleep well. That is essential, especially for young mothers.
The KOOZY: What are your tips on how to calm down after a busy day?
Sara: The important thing is always finding a moment for you, even when you walk the street, start noticing the sky and trees. On arrival home, enjoy little time for you: take a shower, sit down, enjoy a cup of coffee. Take a moment to enjoy what you already have.
The KOOZY: How to start practicing meditation?
Sara: I personally believe it is important to take time to be aware about what you are doing. Take a moment to be grateful for the surrounding: beautiful nature, plants, flowers, colours, smell, wind, everything. Then turn your attention to inside. This is a meditation of a kind. You can of course choose to be still, sitting on the floor with closed eyes. However, to be aware of the present moment, is a good starting point of meditation.
The KOOZY: What do you enjoy most about your current lifestyle?
Sara: I enjoy the fact to have a freedom to manage my time. I love my job. I’m really happy about teaching yoga, staying close to people, sharing beautiful moments, and having time for me, my family, my son and everybody who is important to me.
The KOOZY: Who did you want to become as a child?
Sara: An actress. I did a lot of plays with my family and my brothers, performing for my parents.
The KOOZY: How did you arrive to this point in your career?
Sara: I started yoga when I was 22. I was doing my PhD in Bologna and working in the field of contemporary dance. My dance teacher invited me to a yoga class. My journey started from that moment. I was always practicing yoga in the craziest times of my life, during tours in Europe as part of my dancing theatre. Yoga always made me feel free and calm. When I arrived to Lisbon, I found a yoga teacher, attended yoga teaching training and started to teach myself. Now I’m a part of the Yoga Room, Lisbon school and a mentor to other yoga teachers.
The KOOZY: What message do you like to transmit to your students?
Sara: I try to transmit every time different messages, as yoga world is very wide. What is important to me, is how I can serve my students and how the practice can serve them. Every time I start the practice, I ask them to set an intention and to ask themselves, what they want to do that day and how the practice & I can serve them.
The KOOZY: Do yoga teachers have a yoga teacher?
Sara: Yes, sure. I have a wonderful, amazing yoga teacher. My students are my teachers every day. I’m also part of the school, so we are colleagues and friends, and teachers, who keep working together and love to go to each other classes - to continue learning, keep a “student” mind and growing.
The KOOZY: Do you have any funny fact about being a yoga professor?
Sara: Yes, actually. I teach how to mirror students - best way to understand where is “right” and “left”. I need to put something on my right wrist to know it’s a left side of my students.
The KOOZY: What yoga brings into your life?
Sara: Yoga brings me serenity and calming my mind. Everything in life is running fast and I like to move, of course. Having this moment of connection with yourself, through movements and stillness, steadiness - giving me a great foundation, that is important in my life. It is bringing me back to earth.
The KOOZY: Do you incorporate dance into the yoga practice?
Sara: It is impossible for me not to have an influence of my dancing background. It is something spontaneous. You can see it in some sequences and dynamics. It is something that I like to share in my practice.
